CGG Engages African Leaders on Good Governance and Capability Building at AAPAM Conference

CAPE TOWN (South Africa), 9 December 2022— The Chandler Governance Group (CGG) participated in the African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) 41st Roundtable Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa. The delegation was led by Mr Kenneth Sim, Dean of the Chandler Academy of Governance and Deputy Executive Director of CGG.
The theme for the 2022 Conference was ‘Africa's Renewal in the Era of Sustainable Development: Shared Responsibility for Strengthening Institutions’ and was hosted by the University of the Western Cape. More than 500 political and public service leaders from over 30 African countries were present for the week-long conference.
Representing CGG, Dean Kenneth Sim addressed conference participants on the importance of building strong government capabilities in improving national governance, and shared insights from the Chandler Good Government Index. He also spoke on the need to reinvent learning in the public sector, as a way to uplift capabilities.
During the conference, CGG announced its collaboration with AAPAM to run the Strong Nations for Africa Fellowship Programme in 2023. The Fellowship programme aims to nurture a community of African public sector leaders who are committed to improving the quality of national governance in their countries, and to provide a platform for propagating good practices and practical tools in governance.
During the conference, CGG also held bilateral meetings with senior public sector leaders from Egypt, Mauritius, Nigeria and South Africa.
