March 11, 2024

- The Chandler Academy of Governance (CAG) recently concluded a two-day workshop on Curriculum Development and Instructional Design for the Malawi School of Government (MSG). The workshop was designed to equip participants with applied knowledge in adult learning principles and instructional design modalities.
- The workshop reflects MSG’s commitment to excellence in capacity building, supported by CAG’s long-term partnership. It forms part of an ongoing collaboration between CAG and MSG to co-design and implement a leadership milestone programme for senior leaders, to further strengthen capacity building efforts.
LILONGWE (Malawi), 11 March 2024 – The Chandler Academy of Governance (CAG), the training arm of the Chandler Governance Group (CGG), recently facilitated a two-day Curriculum Development and Instructional Design workshop for the Malawi School of Government (MSG) in preparation for a Malawi Public Sector Leadership milestone programme which CGG and MSG are jointly developing. The workshop was held from 29 February 2024 to 1 March 2024. It aimed to equip senior MSG staff and other facilitators who will be facilitating at the milestone programme with deep insights into adult learning principles, effective curriculum development techniques and resources to create engaging learning modules tailored to meet the evolving needs of public service leaders. These include topics on public policy design and programme management, contract management and results-based project management in the public service amongst others.

Led by Ms Sin Xin Ping, Deputy Dean (Programmes), CAG, the workshop convened 14 senior MSG staff and external facilitators. Throughout the workshop, participants actively engaged in refining their module outlines based on constructive feedback sessions and expert guidance provided by other participants and CAG facilitators. Participants were also guided through the process of creating project management schedules to ensure efficient module implementation alongside their corresponding learning activities. Beyond the workshop, CAG will continue to work with the participants to assess and provide feedback on their module development and learning resources.

This workshop forms part of a broader, longstanding partnership between CAG and the MSG that first commenced with providing technical support for the MSG’s establishment through a series of stakeholder consultations and international benchmarking workshops. This has since expanded to developing staff capabilities in core areas such as conducting training needs assessment and pedagogical skills for curriculum design and delivery.
The learning modules that the participants developed during the workshop will eventually form the core set of modules that will be delivered in the milestone programme that CAG and the MSG are developing. These topics were identified through a comprehensive training needs analysis exercise conducted by CAG and MSG to ensure that the leadership programme addresses the learning and development needs of the public service and to foster effective public service leadership and organisational growth.
