CAG and Rwanda’s RCI Conduct Workshop on Protocol for International Engagements in Government

KIGALI (Rwanda), 20 April 2023 – The Chandler Academy of Governance (CAG) collaborated with the Rwanda Cooperation Initiative (RCI) to design and deliver the Protocol for International Engagements workshop for RCI staff between 5 to 14 April 2023. The workshop supports Rwanda’s initiative to enhance public sector capability, which is key towards building strong nations.

Conducted virtually and held over four sessions, the workshop was designed to help the RCI leaders sharpen their skills in protocol, especially as it pertains to engagements with governments in international and cross-cultural settings. These are important competencies required by RCI leaders and staff, to fulfil their mandate of promoting innovative initiatives through international cooperation.

The sessions were facilitated by an expert from The Chandler Governance Group (CGG), Mr Yip Yee Thai, formerly working with the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Through a mixture of lectures, discussions and interactive learning, the participants were able to understand the principles and nuances of protocol, how protocol is applied internationally and locally, and gained practical skills which can be applied in their work.

The “Protocols for International Engagements in Government” training facilitated by the Chandler Academy of Governance elevated our understanding and knowledge on protocol on an international scale but also taking into consideration the local, and continental contexts. The mode of learning was virtual, however the trainer ensured that the content was not only informative, but also captivating through the usage of different formats, such as images and videos, whilst incorporating some humor to make it enjoyable. The participatory approach used, allowed all our staff to get involved and apply the content in a real life scenario and/or event. The Protocols for International Engagements in Government workshop falls under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between CGG and RCI to enhance public sector capability in Rwanda and internationally.
