CGG Appoints New Member to its Advisory Council

SINGAPORE, 13 August 2020 — In an increasingly uncertain and complex world, governments face limitations in solving problems in silo. Tapping on talent and resources from businesses and community is important for society to jointly overcome obstacles and crises. Principled, ethical and effective partnerships between the public and private sectors are crucial in supporting nation-building, and many governments are keen to learn how to work effectively with the private sector to create jobs, investments and national wealth.

The Chandler Governance Group (CGG) has appointed Mr Arvind Uppal, Chairman of Whirlpool India, as member of its Advisory Council on 13 August 2020.

Arvind has more than 31 years of experience in the private sector and an established track record of revitalising businesses in the consumer industry across many countries. He served as President Asia-Pacific and Managing Director for Whirlpool Corporation India Ltd for 12 years. Arvind fundamentally refined Whirlpool’s businesses, brand and product positions in India and other markets.

Prior to his stint at Whirlpool, Arvind had an 18-year illustrious career in Nestlé in India, Switzerland, China and Southeast Asia. He worked closely on the Maggi brand and was responsible for its launch and success across these countries.

Arvind is recognised by the industry as an astute strategist and a strong leader. He is currently serving as a member of various public-listed boards such as Gulf Oil Lubricants India Ltd and Akzo Nobel India. Arvind is also an industry advisor to Advent International, and a mentor to various startups.

"I believe my experience in problem-solving with a private sector mindset will provide a fresh outlook to CGG’s work. I trust that I will be able to guide both CGG and their government partners on their perspective and understanding of the needs, mindset and realities of investors and businesses. I look forward to supporting CGG and governments in forging strong and meaningful partnerships between the public and private sectors”
Mr Arvind Uppal
Chairman, Whirlpool India

CGG’s Executive Director, Mr Wu Wei Neng welcomed Mr Arvind Uppal to the Advisory Council. He said:

"As the Chandler Governance Group continues to grow our support to governments, it is important for us to cultivate an equally strong public and private sector perspective. A nuanced perspective to public sector performance, and its implications for businesses and citizens will strengthen our support for governments. I believe Arvind’s proven private sector experience, leadership and networks across developed and developing markets will be beneficial to CGG. I am pleased to be working with him and seeking his guidance.”
